so - with the tumblr crackdown happening and everyone looking for greener pastures anyway, i figure it’s about time to admit i’m not here anymore.  i’ve been busy with grad school (which is going well!), and, to be honest, tumblr had started stressing me out.

my blog is backed up locally in case anything happens to it.  i’m not really posting much anywhere else right now.  i’ll probably start up again on a different site eventually, but right now i’m not sure which one i’ll move to.  if we’re mutuals and you want to keep in contact, drop me a line and i’ll let you know where else you can find me, so i can let you know when i start back up.

it’s been a weird, fun ride, and i’m glad to have shared it with you.  best wishes, and i’ll catch you on the flip side.

just realized the tumblr backup for beginners instructions are windows-only. has someone made instructions for mac or do i gotta?

ok, here’s a somewhat more approachable option (h/t @bananapeppers)

and here’s my simplified mac instructions for the original link, as quick as i can bc i have to go out:

  1. Download and install Python. It’s been a long time since I did this but hopefully it’s pretty self-explanatory.
  2. Download tumblr utils and unzip it. For simplicity’s sake we’re just gonna leave it in your downloads folder.
  3. You’ll have a new folder called something like bbolli-tumblr-utils-3a37fe6. Rename it to just tumblr-utils.
  4. Open the Terminal app. You can find it in Applications/Utilities or search your computer for it.
  5. In the Terminal app, type this: python ~/Downloads/tumblr-utils/tumblr_backup.py yourtumblrurl, replacing “yourtumblrurl” with, well, your tumblr url. Press enter. Whisper “I’m in” and feel very powerful.
  6. Wait for it to finish, and you’ll have a new folder inside the tumblr-utils folder containing all your shit!

if you have trouble, feel free to pm me although i might not be able to respond right away.
